JANET WARD, VOLUNTEER
“I am honored to provide this testimony praising the leadership and people of Safe Haven Equine Warriors (SHEW). I am a 74 year old volunteer who is a retired RN and life-long HORSE lover. Upon retirement I wanted to continue to serve in a different yet meaningful way. SHEW was the answer to my prayers.
I can provide numerous real-life examples of their devotion and unbridled humanity to the horse. In so doing, SHEW also provides PEOPLE the opportunity to make real and meaningful change in the horse world. SHEW is relentless, tireless, and committed to ethical change for each and every horse in need.”

James E. Lewis DVM, L.Ac.
“Safe Haven Equine Warriors (SHEW) have been a client since 2014. The combination of rescue, rehabilitation, retraining, and rehoming along with the educational component that SHEW provides is a seldom-seen and much-needed service.
SHEW has also been a good steward in the community helping other local horse owners in need.
I highly recommend SHEW and encourage you to support this fine organization and the good works that they do.”

Monica Shah Hammond Howard County Public School System (HCPSS)
“At HCPSS, we are always looking for meaningful work experiences for our neurodiverse students. When we approached Tina about partnering with SHEW she immediately welcomed the idea.
Since day one, the volunteers have held high expectations for our students while also giving them the proper amount of support. One volunteer even went above and beyond with a Spanish-speaking student to help him learn commonly-used farm words in English. We are very grateful to all of Safe Haven's Volunteers for helping our students learn valuable communication, social, self-advocacy, and workplace skills.”

Jane Sims, Adopter
“As an adopter of a Safe Haven Equine Warriors (SHEW) rescued pony, I am acutely aware of the challenges Safe Haven Equine Warriors is facing when saving fragile animals from the auction. I support SHEW in their continued efforts towards changing legislation needed to stop shipping horses across United States borders, as well as their efforts to protect and care for these gentle, defenseless animals who so desperately need them. Their efforts are saving lives. I have seen firsthand, the work SHEW has done, in our rescued pony.
Annabelle Blue was the last horse to be auctioned the day SHEW saved her from a fate she did not deserve. SHEW worked to earn her trust and taught her the skills she needed to become a beloved pony of a little girl.
The work SHEW is doing to care for and rehabilitate horses and ponies who have been discarded is amazing. These magnificent creatures need the voice SHEW has given them by speaking up and speaking out. With your support, more lives can be saved, more animals can be rehabilitated, and more ponies can be given the opportunity to be loved by little girls.”
